WIFT International, a network of over 10,000 women working in the screen industry around the world.
With concern for environmental waste Park Road Post Production began Greening the Screen in 2007. Park Road has set a programme in place with a vision and objectives that have been embraced by staff who have set up a committee that reports to management.
Park Road is committed to reducing energy and has had an audit conducted informing where energy could be saved (air conditioning). The building is fitted with eco-bulbs, staff are proactive in turning off lights, computers and equipment when not in use. Appliances are turned off at the source, information is provided to clients to educate on Park Road’s green initiative. Cleaners and security staff ensure only necessary lights are on during their duties.
All food waste from the café (which serves on average 80 people per day) as well as waste from the seven kitchens throughout the facility is taken by ‘Kai to Compost’ to the Wellington Council’s compost facility. All paper, card, bottles, cans, etc, are recycled.
Laboratory practices have been changed to dramatically reduce water usage.
Staff are being given tips for greening their homes.
About Park Road from Landcare Research who runs the Greening the Screen programme: “I have never seen such excellent organisation, promising early results and amazing commitment. In my professional opinion Park Road would be the most advanced in terms of environmental management in the screen industry in NZ, you have certainly leapfrogged many other companies in the programme. I would think that internationally you would be up there also - you have also set the correct framework in place to ensure it continues to grow and provide results on a long term basis - this is often the hardest thing to achieve”.
