Barbara Darragh

Barbara has been involved in costume design in the New Zealand film and television industry since pre 1980. From the classic Radio Times to New Zealand features and Hollywood block busters, Barbara has worked across a range of formats and genres, designing 1930’s period costumes along with fantasy and cartoon styles, for both children’s and adult’s films.

Barbara has been involved in some of New Zealand’s shaping films including Came A Hot Friday, The Piano and River Queen. She is an award winning costume designer gaining credit for work throughout her career; including End of the Golden Weather (Contribution to Design for Film 1992) and River Queen (Costume Design Award SCDGNZ 2006).

Barbara is committed to developing future costume technicians; she offers employment opportunities to student interns plus training on the job. Three years ago Barbara created a costume rental and service company for costume designers and stylists; the company not only services the industry but is also building a collection of originals and recording New Zealand’s costume history.
