Inspired by a true story, 17 year old Rita breaks the code of silence she has grown up with and gives evidence to an anti-Mafia judge. She is rejected by her mother, and almost everyone else she’s ever known, and must go into hiding to save her life. The Sicilian Girl is a powerful story of an ultra-violent world and the courage of one young woman against all odds.

WIFT is delighted to present a WIFT celebration screening of Christine Jeff’s new film Sunshine Cleaning - nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival 2009 - as a WIFT fundraiser at Park Road Post on Monday 6 July 2009.
The film has been called ‘cherishable’ with sublime performances – a poignant and bittersweet film about respect, love and clearing up body parts. It stars Amy Adams, Emily Blunt and Alan Arkin and is produced by the team who deliver Little Miss Sunshine.
Our screening is made possible with the kind support of Madman Films, Park Road Post and Christine Jeffs. Tickets are just $20 for WIFT members and $25 for non-members, and include drinks and nibbles from 6-7pm, film screening and a Q&A with Christine. Don’t miss this very special event which will sell out – book your tickets now through the WIFT NZ office at office@wiftnewzealand.org.nz or 09 373 4071. Funds raised will go towards the support of WIFT NZ’s annual Robin Laing Scholarship.
