Bindy Crayford

Bindy’s film career began as a production assistant on Geoff Murphy’s Utu. She then heard that the NZFC was employing a lighting trainee on Vincent Ward’s Vigil, lobbied hard to be chosen and succeeded. Bindy became the first female to work consistently in this area of filmmaking gaining credit as "best person" in the very PC 1980’s. She was once told by the late Jim Booth that she was "the most successful trainee the NZ Film Commission had ever had."

For the past 20 plus years Bindy has worked mainly in lighting on a variety of features, short films, TV series, documentaries, commercials and music videos. She became a mother of four while working in the industry – and was possibly the first gaffer in NZ to work while pregnant or breastfeeding!
